From the very beginning of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master the talented storyteller has kept fans guessing with rich lore, a wide array of heroes, and a gripping narrative featuring angels, evil spirits, and dark forces expanding in power within the city.
Warning: Spoilers for the third episode of the new season are included.
The Soldiers Table Revealed
Episode 3 concluded with a huge suspense moment and revealed the initial group of characters who will separate from the primary party to begin their independent quest, distinct from the other two tables.
This warrior group includes Teor Pridesire (portrayed by Travis Willingham), the nimble rogue (Laura), the fierce warrior (Whitney Moore), Wicander Halovar (the player), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie).
The Reason for Division
With a large ensemble, it was clear from the beginning that keeping everyone at the same party would be impossible.
That’s why, the initial installments of the new season serve as an Prelude, connecting the personal journeys before splitting into three smaller tables: Fighters, Planners, and Questers.
The Nature of the Soldiers Table
Per Brennan Lee Mulligan, the Soldiers table is for players who enjoy a traditionally charged combat and conflict-driven narrative style where non-violent answers are rare.
At first glance, characters like the reluctant priest the cleric might appear out of place, but the developments of the latest installment show why these particular heroes are best suited for the combat party.
Why They Must Go
To begin with, the group has a clear idea where to head next after a violent opening clash with the antagonists.
Casimir of Thjazi—whose death started the narrative’s action—used The Crow Keepers for his own means, breaking into the secret base, striking the rogue, and taking all the magical artifacts to sell off.
The antagonist then cleared his liabilities and ran away to a secure base in Gormalay, Timmony, beyond the city, with Teor’s brother pursuing him.
Personal Motivations
Additionally, each member has a personal reason to exit Dol-Makjar:
- Thimble, as the close ally and trusted friend, desires retribution.
- The knowledgeable figure knows the northern area and warns that it is a hostile location.
- The strong character and The healer, having resisted his relatives’ demands to kill the fighter and instead rescued him, have nowhere else to go.
- But, their reputation as key figures in the influential clan could help the team reach places they usually can’t.
- Moreover, The grateful character pledged a eternal obligation to The savior for his salvation and will now accompany him anywhere.
Fugitives
Finally, all of them are hunted by the powers that rule the setting for a range of causes, making lingering locally dangerous:
- The rogue and The character are recognized lawbreakers.
- The warrior and The cleric turned against the influential house and the army of fiends they are partnered with.
- The target is marked for death by the clan.
This results in them no alternative but to head to Timmony in search of the traitor.
