Bolsonaro has been taken into custody after authorities concluded he posed a definite escape threat while under house arrest.

The ex-president was convicted of planning a government overthrow in the ninth month and sentenced more than over two decades in jail, but he remained under house arrest pending appeals.

Brazilian Supreme Court Justice the presiding justice said the decision to arrest the elderly politician was a preventative measure after "new facts" came to light.

This included seeking to disable his tracking device and a call for a demonstration that could facilitate a chance to flee".

Legal Document Reveals Flight Fears

In a filing authorising the arrest, Justice Moraes said intelligence from the facility tracking Bolsonaro's house arrest suggested the one-time head of state's aim to disable the tracking monitor to guarantee victory in his escape.

Context of Sentencing
